Rats eat child's face

OH LORD!!!!!!

Rat disfigures Mo. baby sleeping in crib

Tue Feb 27, 6:19 PM ET

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Exterminators began sweeping a Kansas City neighborhood infested with rats after one of the rodents crawled into a baby's crib and severely disfigured the girl's face.

Authorities said the girl's parents put her in a crib next to their bed early Sunday and awoke a few hours later, when a heart and breathing monitor alarm went off. The 4-week-old baby, which had been born prematurely, was lying in a pool of blood with her nose and part of her upper lip chewed off.

The parents found rat feces in the crib. Police believe milk or formula that had leaked onto the baby attracted the rodent.

No one else in the home was bitten, police said.

Michael Swoyer, who supervises Kansas City's rat-control program, said exterminators spent Monday at the family's house, several occupied homes nearby, vacant houses and in the surrounding sewer system.

"We don't want this to ever happen again," Swoyer said. "We're all over the neighborhood now."

Swoyer said it was the first time in several years of working in rodent control that he had heard of a rat attacking a human, but he said less severe cases may have happened and were not reported.

The city funded a rat-control unit in the late 1990s, but budget cuts closed it for about three years, Swoyer said. It reopened last May.

Swoyer said rats can be difficult to exterminate because they are cautious of new things in their environment. He said the rodents have even been known to force weaker members of their colonies to eat new food "to see if they die."

Swoyer said rats are attracted to food, water and shelter. He encouraged residents to pick up trash, keep a tight lid on food and cut down tall weeds that can serve as habitat.

"Get rid of one of those things, and the rats will leave," he said.

Body parts found scattered on highway

Body parts found scattered in San Diego

By ALLISON HOFFMAN, Associated Press Writer Tue Feb 27, 2:49 PM ET

SAN DIEGO - A human head and a hand found Tuesday along two busy San Diego freeways may belong to an unidentified body discovered floating in a river, police said.

A tow truck driver spotted a black plastic bag containing the head on southbound Interstate 5 around 6:30 a.m., San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney said. The left hand was found by a freeway maintenance worker less than two hours later about 10 miles north on Route 163.

Police believe the body parts belong to a man whose torso was found Monday floating in the Otay River under the Interstate 5 overpass.

The area is not far from where the head was discovered and just 10 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, and investigators have alerted Mexican law enforcement, Rooney said.

Authorities had no leads on the man's identity and asked the public for help.

They described the victim as a balding, 60-year-old white male with a mustache and glasses who was wearing a plaid shirt and jeans.

"There are no matches through missing people and to my knowledge no leads identifying him," Rooney said. "It's incredibly important to know who he is, because otherwise it's difficult to have a starting point for researching his work life, home life, love life, friends, enemies."

Supermarket surveillance photographs released Monday evening showed a man police believe to be the victim wearing a black backpack.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Woman tries to trade child for used Dodge Intrepid

PUEBLO, Colorado (AP) -- Three people were arrested on charges of swapping a 5-month-old boy for a down payment on a used Dodge Intrepid and cash, police said Tuesday.

Nicole Uribe, 23, is accused of trading the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma, 47, and his wife, Irene, 27, in exchange for the down payment and an unspecified amount of cash.

All were arrested on suspicion of felony trafficking in children and were being held at the Pueblo jail under $50,000 bail each.

The baby was placed in a foster home, Police Sgt. Brett Wilson said. Wilson said he could not speculate on the motives for the alleged deal.

He said police found the child and arrested Uribe within hours of getting a tip on Monday. The Lermas were arrested on Tuesday.

Wilson said all three were Mexican nationals and federal officials had been asked to investigate their immigration status.

Director 'finds lost tomb of Jesus'

YEAH RIGHT!!!

Director 'finds lost tomb of Jesus'
Sunday, February 25, 2007

Titanic director James Cameron believes he may have discovered Jesus' lost tomb.

DNA evidence and statistical analysis of a set of 2,000-year-old stone coffins found in Jerusalem in 1980 suggest they once held the remains of Christ and his family, according to a new documentary.

It says tests on human residue taken from the "ossuaries" believed to be those of Jesus and Mary Magdalene indicates they might have been a couple - and the filmmakers believe they may have had a son, Judah.

Cameron, who produced the Discovery Channel film set to air on Channel 4 in the UK, will unveil the two key coffins at a press conference in New York on Monday.

The team said their findings did not necessarily conflict with the fundamental Christian belief that Jesus was resurrected three days after his crucifixion - contrary to some reports that they would claim the evidence meant the resurrection did not take place.

The Discovery Channel claimed the evidence could be the "greatest archaeological find in history".

"It doesn't get bigger than this," Cameron said. "We've done our homework; we've made the case; and now it's time for the debate to begin."

Woman advised by geese not guilty

Woman allegedly advised by geese not guilty in tot death
POSTED: 7:10 a.m. EST, February 24, 2007

CENTENNIAL, Colorado (AP) -- A 53-year-old woman who claimed she received spiritual messages from geese before allegedly stabbing her toddler granddaughter to death was found not guilty by reason of insanity Friday.

A judge ordered Carol Lynn Pappas committed to the state mental health hospital, where officials will decide "when and if she will ever be released," said Kathleen Walsh, spokeswoman for the district attorney.

She faced life in prison if convicted.

Authorities said Pappas called 911 from her son's home October 29, 2005, and said, "I flipped ... the baby was crying and I couldn't handle it."

When police arrived, they found Pappas holding a phone. Both her hands were stained with blood, and an 8-inch knife was found near the body of 21-month-old Madison Pappas.

Madison had been stabbed numerous times.

Authorities said Pappas had told her son she had been receiving spiritual advice from geese flying over his house, where she was living.

Court records showed she had been admitted to hospitals for psychiatric care at least six times in 2005, including six weeks before the slaying.

Russian Fat Cat creams the rest

Russian fat cat creams the rest
Russia has its fair share of mafia fat cats, but it also has what may be the fattest pet cat in the world.

Katy, a five-year-old Siamese from the town of Asbest in the Ural mountains, weighs in at 23 kilograms (50 pounds) - slightly more than the average six-year-old boy.

"She doesn't really eat that much," owner Tamara Yapugova told the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

"She has a couple of fish in the morning and about 200 grams of meat in the evening.

KATY'S VITAL STATISTICS
Length - 69 cm (27 inches)
Waist - 70 cm (27.5 inches)
Weight - 23 kg (50 pounds)
Whisker span - 15 cm (6 inches)
Food consumption: 1.3 frankfurters per minute
Source: Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper
"We give her vitamins... and we don't begrudge her milk mixed with sour cream. Dairy products are very good for her after all."

Katy's owners are trying to get her recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as the fattest living cat in the world.

The record is currently held by a cat from the US state of Minnesota, which weighs a mere 18.5 kg.

But although Guinness is aware of Katy's bid, a spokeswoman told BBC News Online that nominations in this category were no longer being accepted.

No appetite for sex

She said the organisation did not want to encourage people to overfeed their pets.

Katy herself achieved her enormous size partly because she was fed hormones to stop her mating.

Komsomolskaya Pravda reported noted that despite her young age, Katy had now completely lost interest in the opposite sex, including her "ex-husband", the household's tomcat Kiska.

Her only interest now is food.

The newspaper said she took less than a minute to eat a frankfurter.

A Russian cat specialist advised special diet foods to reduce the strain on Katy's heart, liver and kidneys.

"Of course, dieting and detoxification days are important," Tamara Yapugova said.

"But I cannot starve her to death."

Sword seized after man mistakes porn for rape

OCONOMOWOC, Wisconsin (AP) -- A man says he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching.

"Now I feel stupid," said James Van Iveren, who has been charged in the case. "This really is nothing, nothing but a mistake."

According to a criminal complaint, the neighbor told police that Van Iveren pounded on the door and kicked it open without warning February 12, damaging the frame and lock. (Watch what damage Van Iveren allegedly left and how the neighbor will watch porn in the future Video)

"Where is she?" Van Iveren demanded, thrusting the sword at the neighbor, the complaint said. "Where is she?"

The neighbor told police Van Iveren became increasingly aggressive as he repeated the question, insisting that he had heard a woman being raped. The complaint said that, with the sword pointed at him, the neighbor led Van Iveren throughout the apartment, opening closet doors to prove he was alone.

The neighbor later played for police the part of the DVD he believed Van Iveren heard downstairs.

Van Iveren, 39, of Oconomowoc, was charged with criminal trespass, criminal damage and disorderly conduct, all while using a dangerous weapon, and is scheduled to appear in court March 5. Together, the misdemeanor counts carry a maximum sentence of 33 months in jail.

Van Iveren said Tuesday that he heard a woman "screaming for help," grabbed the sword, bounded up the stairs, kicked in the apartment door and confronted the man who lived there.

"I intended to hold it behind my back and knock. But I froze and instead, what happened happened," he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Contesting his neighbor's account, Van Iveren said he didn't look anywhere in the apartment except the front room, and that he never threatened the neighbor with the sword.

"I had the sword extended, but that was all," he said.

Van Iveren, who lives with his mother in the downstairs apartment, said he did not call police when he heard the noises because he does not have a telephone. He said he barely knew the upstairs tenant.

Police seized Van Iveren's sword, which he said was a family heirloom.

Gunman kills 2 clowns

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) -- Two clowns were shot and killed by an unidentified gunman during their performance at a traveling circus in the eastern Colombian town of Cucuta, police said Wednesday.

The gunman burst into the Circo del Sol de Cali on Monday night and shot the clowns in front of an audience of 20 to 50 people, local police chief Jose Humberto Henao told Reuters.

One of the clowns was killed instantly, and the second died the next day in hospital.

"The killings had nothing to do with the show the victims were performing at the time of the incident," Henao said in a telephone interview. "We are investigating the motive."

With an entrance fee of under 50 cents, Circo del Sol de Cali attracts mostly poor Colombians. It pitched its tents in Cucuta, near the border with Venezuela, earlier this month.

"The clowns came out to give their show, and then this guy came out shooting them," one audience member told local television. "It was terrible."

German Cannibal Victim's Will Found

German Cannibal Victim's Will Found

Bernd Jeurgen B's will was signed and authorized on the morning of his death
Großansicht des Bildes mit der Bildunterschrift: Bernd Jeurgen B's will was signed and authorized on the morning of his death

The apparent willing victim in the German cannibal murder left a will that indicates that he was fully aware of the fate that awaited him, according to investigators.

Police investigating the horrific cannibal murder case in Germany have revealed that Bernd Juergen B, the alleged willing participant and victim in the crime, wrote his will immediately before he met his murderer.

The legal document and the video tape that is rumored to show both Bernd Juergen B and the perpetrator eating the victim's flesh and the subsequent murder support suggestions that victim and killer both engaged in consensual cannibalism.

Legal document suggests victim went to death willingly

According to police reports Bernd Juergen B wrote out his will and had it officially recognized by a notary on the morning of his disappearance March 9, 2001. In the will, he left the bulk of his estate including a lavish penthouse apartment and his collection of expensive computer equipment to his live-in partner, a man named Rene.

The German daily Berliner Morgenpost reports that Rene knew nothing of the victim's plans and discovered the will only after Bernd Juergen B was reported missing. The victim reportedly sold most of his other belongings, including a sports car just before his disappearance.

Bernd Juergen B had told his boss at Siemens he was taking that Friday off "to attend to some personal matters". He was last seen at a subway station in Berlin when co-workers caught sight of him. The German police believe the victim then traveled 300 kilometers from Berlin to the alleged murderer's rambling half-timbered house near Kassel with several thousand euro in cash and his passport.

The 42-year-old victim, a computer chip developer at Siemens Corporation in Berlin, willingly allowed himself to be led to the slaughter, police said.

Evidence shows that both men consented to cannibalism

"The victim appeared to be fully aware of the situation," an investigator said. "Videotape material definitely shows both him and the suspect engaged in eating his own flesh prior to his death." Police officers who have been studying the evidence, including the video made by the suspect of the final moments of his victim's life, were said to be undergoing psychiatric counseling. An official statement on Friday said the video shows the victim willingly allowed himself to be castrated before both men engaged in eating his severed flesh.

After murdering the victim, the killer, only identified as Armin M, apparently removed body parts for consumption and buried the rest. During a search of the killer's home, police found frozen human flesh and skeletal remains, and a cellar which had been renovated into a makeshift slaughterhouse, complete with trough drains and meat hooks.

Police used diggers to unearth body parts on the grounds of Armin M's sprawling 17th Century estate in the idyllic central German town of Rotenburg an der Fulda. Police have found no indications that more than one person's remains had been disposed of on the estate.

Adverts for willing victims led police to killer

Authorities filed murder charges against the reclusive computer systems expert on Thursday. The 41-year-old suspect admitted to investigators that he had videotaped himself killing the man who he had met via a gay Internet chat room after the victim responded to one of 80 adverts that read: 'Gay male seeks hunks 18-30 to slaughter.' Both men were computer experts and were both described as 'Internet addicts' by colleagues.

It was revealed on Friday that a chat room user tipped Police off to the existence of Armin M's grisly adverts. Investigators now know of at least five respondents to the ad, in addition to the undercover officers who answered it and quickly determined it was meant literally.

Neighbors describe killer as 'a pleasant and polite man'

Neighbors describe the murder suspect as a pleasant and polite man who kept to himself. He served in the German armed forces as a non- commissioned officer in ordinance for 12 years where was described as an amiable and conscientious military man.

After leaving the military in 1991, Armin M trained as a computer technician and until recently had a job with a software firm in the Rhine Valley city of Karlsruhe, 30km south of Rotenburg. He lived with his mother in the 17th Century half-timbered manor house, staying on there after her death three years ago.

"He was a mama's boy," a neighbor told reporters. "He was totally fixated on his mother, who he said never let him date girls. After she died, he began to thaw out."

Newborn baby skeletons found in bag

BHOPAL, India (CNN) -- Police announced they uncovered a plastic bag stuffed with the skeletal remains of at least six newborns Sunday after searching the grounds of a Christian missionary hospital in the central Indian town of Ratlam.

Director General of Police A.R. Pavar said they found the remains hidden in a drainage ditch on the hospital's property in Ratlam after scouring the grounds following a tip off from a local.

All 390 bone fragments are thought to be from newly born babies and fetuses, but Pavar said an investigation will offer more information. (Watch men remove the tiny bodies Video)

Ratlam's superintendent of police, Satish Saxena said it was not immediately clear whether the hospital was disposing of bones properly.

"They may not have buried the dead bodies of the newborn at a graveyard where they should have been," he said, adding also that the bones may not have been properly incinerated.

Bishop L. Maida, the senior official who represents the church that runs the hospital, told CNN the hospital is more than a century old and nothing like this has happened before.

If a woman has a miscarriage she pays the hospital to dispose of the remains and perhaps that is what the bones are from, Maida said.

"After an investigation we may be able to say something more on this case," he said.

It is not known how old the bones are, what sex they are of how long they have been in the drain.

Police in Ratlam have sent the remains to a government laboratory for forensic tests. The forensic results could take anywhere between one week and one month.

The sex of the bones is particularly important, given India's history of practicing feticide and infanticide since their culture prizes baby boys over baby girls.

Sex selection abortion -- or feticide -- was outlawed in 1994 and any case of infanticide would be characterized as homicide, but the deliberate killings of fetuses and infants is still practiced.

Pavar said they are taking that into account.

"We are investigating if these children were stillborn of if this was a case of female infanticide," he said.

Maida said to the best of his knowledge those practices have never happened at the small town Christian hospital located about 140 west of the state capital of Bhopal.

Last December the Indian government estimated that more than 10 million girls have been killed by their parents in the past 20 years either before their birth or immediately afterwards. The number includes deaths counted before sex selection abortions were outlawed in 1994.

In China, too the preference for boy babies is customary. The practice of female feticide and infanticide is outlawed as in India, but what magnifies the problem in China is the government limitations on the number of children per household, thus making it even more important to have a boy.

The boy preference in both countries is typically tied to the view that men are breadwinners and women are a financial liabilities, since families pay out large sums of money in dowries for their marriages.

In some parts of India the sex ratio has been so skewed that men have complained it is difficult to marry.

Mummified body found in front of blaring TV

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/17/death.television.reut/index.html

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Police called to a Long Island man's house discovered the mummified remains of the resident, dead for more than a year, sitting in front of a blaring television set.

The 70-year-old Hampton Bays, New York, resident, identified as Vincenzo Ricardo, appeared to have died of natural causes. Police said on Saturday his body was discovered on Thursday when they went to the house to investigate a report of a burst water pipe.

"You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," Newsday quoted morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus as saying. The home's low humidity had preserved the body.

Officials could not explain why the electricity had not been turned off, considering Ricardo had not been heard from since December 2005.

Neighbors said when they had not seen Ricardo, who was diabetic and had been blind for years, they assumed he was in the hospital or a long-term care facility.

Britney Spears shaves her head!

i hate this white trash bitch. but i love celebrity breakdowns!! loves it!!!

SHERMAN OAKS, February 16, 2007 - Britney Spears is back in the U.S., and she's sporting a brand new look.

Spears was photographed at the valley tattoo shop "Body and Soul" in Sherman Oaks, getting a tattoo reportedly of a pair of red and pink lips on her wrist. But the biggest change to the pop singer's style? She shaved her head bald.
Spears could be seen inside the tattoo parlor with her head fully exposed, but as she left the shop she was led by her bodyguard straight to a waiting SUV. Spears had her head covered with a hooded sweatshirt to hide her new noggin.

The sidewalk outside the shop was filled with fans, onlookers and paparazzi. Some fans that were interviewed after Spears departed declared the new look less than flattering.
